Abstract

This paper discusses the importance of focusing on the learner in the literature classroom. The need to take into consideration young adult concerns in the world learners live in, the learners' psychological cognitive development when choosing literary texts as well as teaching strategies are highlighted. The paper ends with a discussion on ways to access new sources of literary texts such as adolescent and young adult literature and ways to connect learners to literary texts.
