THE USE OF WEB-BASED APPLICATIONS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMMES AT SELECTED MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITIES
Abstract
This paper is based on a small-scale research conducted among some of the institues of higher learning in Malaysia. The objective was to find out to what extent these insititutes utilize the available Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning of English as well as for research purposes. The paper looks at the kinds of Internet activities that language instructors are normally engaged in during working hours as well as outside working hours. The paper also examines the kinds of problems commonly faced by language instructors in the use of web-based applications in the teaching and learning process. Finally, it suggests some measures to overcome these problems and to promote the use of ICT in a wider and more meaningful manner for ELT programmes.
